Disturbing Video Captures Moment Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Surprise Attack
A ranking policeman who rushed to the assistance of a partner who was ambushed by a knifeman was granted the Monarch's Honor for Valor.
Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a blade to the throat of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the officers and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist subsequent to a vehicle incident in that location in summer 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.
"Policeman attacked," the officer was heard to say over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and vehicle camera footage released by the agency depicted Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood up, rush to Sgt Foster from the rear with a weapon extended.
He struck the officer who tripped and fell to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor even though being repeatedly struck with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a safe opportunity, bringing the fight to an finish.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Please provide assistance on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell suffered multiple open wounds to his throat and more wounds to his limbs and torso, while Sergeant Foster experienced knife wounds.
Authorities said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his partner's blood loss before paramedics arrived.
The new award follows after the three officers received internal Bravery Awards in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the local union branch in spring 2024.
They further earned a North West Valor Recognition in summer 2024.
"The responses of the entire team ultimately rescued one another and ensured no members of the public experienced any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, as stated by the department.
